Context

Hand protection is critical to workplace health and safety. Hands are among the most frequently injured body parts in industrial settings. Protective gloves serve as a first line of defence when workers are exposed to hazards like sharp edges, chemicals, and extreme temperatures causing injuries. For personal protective equipment manufacturers, investing in quality glove design strengthens brand reputation and competitive profiling.

Challenge

Workplace gloves often compromise dexterity, strength, and safety due to inadequate design considerations, negatively affecting worker performance and well-being. Additionally, they may not adequately fit diverse users with different task needs.

Approach

ViVA conducted a literature review and task analysis of construction glove wear in specific scenarios (e.g., used in drilling or handling wrenches) to inform design improvements.

Outcomes

Recommendations optimised glove functionality – enhancing dexterity, grip, and safety – while addressing task-specific needs in construction, healthcare, and manufacturing environments.
