Context
Local government services face unique challenges in aligning truck cab designs with worker needs and task challenges. Ergonomic misalignments in vehicle cab seating can lead to worker discomfort, reduced efficiency, and safety risks.
Challenge
Design truck cab seating that accommodates diverse body types and work demands while mitigating discomfort and musculoskeletal risks.
Approach
ViVA conducted an ergonomic review of a work truck, combining anthropometric measurements, task observations, worker interviews, and risk assessments. Design-based solutions were proposed to align seating systems with workers’ physical needs.
Outcomes
ViVA investigated challenges of truck cab seating for arborists and proposed targeted design improvements. This included better seating configurations and operational changes to reduce worker risk exposures.
