Context
Healthcare service delivery is at a critical junction with rapid medical technology advancements, evolving consumer expectations, and increasing pressures on healthcare systems to provide efficient, equitable, accessible, and personalised care. There are rampant healthcare staffing and skills shortages, yet increasing consumer demands for quality service delivery. Emerging from the pandemic, stories were rife about poor healthcare service experiences. These concerns were not unique to the pandemic, but accentuated during those times in which governing bodies and providers were unprepared.
Challenge
The stories about healthcare delivery required a voice – they needed to be told form a human-factors perspective and approach.
Approach
The ViVA human factors researchers commenced book writing. They gathered stories from contributing authors that included consumers, providers, and work design strategists who shared the human factors, systems-oriented views on healthcare delivery.
Outcomes
ViVA curated and contributed to the story-telling and publication of a new book, Healthcare Insights: The Voice of the Consumer, the Provider, and the Work Design Strategist. This novel tri-party approach ensured balanced views on healthcare experiences, constraints, and opportunities for design improvements.
